These terms are a compilation of terms provided by Drupal, Joomla, Ubuntu and WordPress. TRADEMARK CIVICRM LLC owns and oversees the trademarks and logos for the CiviCRM project and as such has a responsibility to provide a clear set of guidelines regarding the use of these assets. Our desire is to have a structure that fosters growth and encourages responsible use without unnecessary burden. We have developed this trademark and brand usage policy with the following goals in mind: We’d like to make it easy for anyone to use the CiviCRM, CiviCon and CiviCamp name or logo for community-oriented efforts that help spread and improve CiviCRM the software We’d like to make it clear how CiviCRM-related businesses and projects can, and cannot, use the CiviCRM, CiviCon or CiviCamp name and logo We’d like to make it hard for anyone to use the CiviCRM, CiviCon or CiviCamp name and logo to unfairly profit from, trick, or confuse people who are looking for official CiviCRM resources. Definitions Names - the name “CiviCRM” as written, including variations such as “civicrm”, “CIVICRM”, etc., and the name “CiviCon” as written, including variations such as civicon, CiviCON, etc., and the name and “CiviCamp” as written, including variations such as civicamp, CIVICAMP, etc. Wordmark - the portion of the logo that includes a stylized version of the name. Icon - the graphical portion of the logo. Logo - the combination of the wordmark and the icon. Brand - the combination of the logo and non-tangible assets of CiviCRM, including the identity and essence of the company, that convey a meaning, emotion or purpose to consumers. CiviCRM Trademark Usage Policy Permission from CIVICRM LLC is required to use the CiviCRM name, icon, logo or brand as part of any project, product, service, domain or company name. We may grant permission to use the CiviCRM name, icon, logo and brand for projects, products or services that meet the following criteria: The primary purpose of your project, product or service is to promote and improve upon the CiviCRM software and the CiviCRM project, consistent with the objectives of the Core Team of CIVICRM LLC. Your project, product or service is non-commercial in nature (it can make money to cover its costs or contribute to non-profit entities, but it cannot be run as a for-profit project or business). Your project, product or service neither promotes nor is associated with entities that currently fail to comply with the AGPL license under which CiviCRM is distributed or the GPL license under which Drupal, Joomla! and WordPress are distributed. Persons or organizations that meet these criteria may be permitted to use the CiviCRM name, logo and brand to promote their project, product or service. Approval to use the CiviCRM name, brand and logo is not guaranteed and must be requested to and approved by CIVICRM LLC. Please note that it is not the goal of this policy to limit commercial activity around CiviCRM the software or overall project. We encourage CiviCRM-based businesses, and dozens of them are thriving while in compliance with this policy. Commercial projects, products, services and companies not meeting the criteria defined above are subject to the following policies: All CiviCRM-related companies or projects can use the CiviCRM name and logo to refer to and explain their services, but they cannot use them as part of a project, domain or company name and they cannot use them in any way that suggests an affiliation with or endorsement by CIVICRM LLC or the CiviCRM open source project. For example: A consulting company can describe its business as “Nonprofit Consulting Services, offering CiviCRM consulting for nonprofits,” but cannot call its business “The CiviCRM Consulting Company.” The name of your product or service should be used in compliance with the CiviCRM trademark so that there can be no confusion about the true source (company, organization, association or author) of your product or service. The combination of the name of your product or service with the CiviCRM name must be unique and identifiable. Examples include: if your company is called "Acme", refer to your CiviCRM certification product as "Acme CiviCRM Certification" or "CiviCRM Certification by Acme" instead of "CiviCRM Certification"; or if your company called "Acme" has a service called "CiviCRM River," clearly indicate that the "CiviCRM River is a service of Acme" so that there can be no confusion about the true source. It’s appropriate to use the CiviCRM name, icon or logo as part of a web page or hard copy collateral that describes your products or services, but it’s inappropriate and a violation of this trademark to use it as part of your company or product logo or branding itself. Under no circumstances is it permitted to use “civicrm” as part of a top-level domain name. Examples of projects in this dis-allowed category are officially recognized events or CiviCRM communities that are dedicated to the translation, improvement and / or distribution of CiviCRM software in their respective countries. In all cases, the CiviCRM trademark should be accompanied by the following text (or an appropriate translation): "CiviCRM is a registered trademark of CIVICRM LLC". Brand Standard CiviCRM logoThe CiviCRM logo is trademarked. Consistent use of the CiviCRM logo, icon and wordmark is essential to creating a brand standard that represents the community and that fosters recognition of the project and of CiviCRM the software. If you have permission to use an official logo or wordmark you may choose from the assortment of logo images for use in accordance with the following guidelines: The relationship of elements (size, positioning, etc.) should never be altered in any way. Colors and fonts should never be altered. When possible, the logo should appear in its full-colour horizontal version. The icon may be used without the wordmark “CiviCRM”, however the wordmark “CiviCRM” should never be used without the icon. The name CiviCRM, referring to the software product and the community at large, should be written as “CiviCRM”. Variations such as “civicrm”, “CIVICRM”, “CIVIcrm”, etc. are discouraged and should be avoided. Additional punctuation in the name, such as “Civi-CRM” is inappropriate. Logo downloads CiviCRM Logo native AI file (zip) CiviCRM Logo SVG format Changes & References The CiviCRM trademark and brand usage policies are a combination of those presented by Drupal, Joomla, Ubuntu and Wordpress, and were developed to be the least restrictive possible while protecting the CiviCRM brand. CIVICRM LLC reserves the right to modify or update the CiviCRM trademark and brand usage policies with or without notice. Contact CiviCRM Compliance with this trademark and brand usage policy does not guarantee your ability to use any trademark or logo covered herein. Please contact CIVICRM LLC to discuss your use of the CiviCRM, CiviCon or CiviCamp brand, name and logo. Legal address: 330 Upper Terrace, San Francisco, CA 94117 Mailing address: 302 Escalante Circle, Ridgway, CO 81432 Email: info@civicrm.org EVENT GUIDELINES The guidelines have been put together based on the experiences of past event organisers in conjunction with the CiviCRM Core Team. They are split into a small number of requirements (“Requirements”) that all CiviCRM events must follow in order to be recognised as official CiviCRM events, and a larger number of key considerations, tips and suggestions that we think are useful. They aim to make it as straightforward as possible to organise a CiviCRM event and to ensure that all events are as successful as possible for the attendees and organisers, and for the project in general. CiviCRM events come in many shapes and sizes from small local meetups to international conferences, and from trainings to sprints. They cater to different audiences from the new to the very experienced, from consumers of and contributors to CiviCRM, and for end users, implementers and developers. Events are a key way in which we can increase the involvement of our community and contribute to the financial sustainability of the project. If you’re interested in organizing a CiviCRM event, please contact us via email. For a full list of CiviCRM events, visit https://civicrm.org/events What is a CiviCRM event? While CiviCRM encourages anyone to host an event in which CiviCRM is a focal point, only those adhering to the following key points will be considered sanctioned and recognized appropriately by CiviCRM. Events must be: Focused on raising awareness of CiviCRM the product and providing funding for the project Community driven and equitably accessible by all community members Fair, consistent and transparent in its finances and objectives, and aligned with the project’s programs and overall direction CiviCRM events are intended to be inclusive and to foster community participation. Such events may leverage CiviCRM’s infrastructure for communications and are, upon approval by the Core Team, automatically able to use the CiviCRM trademark and logo, consistent with CiviCRM’s brand standards. Events promoted and covered by these guidelines include: CiviCon - intended to be national in scope (1 per country per year), multi-day events with trainings and sprints. Attracting an even mixture of new users, administrators and developers. CiviCamp - intended to be regional events (multiple events per country per year) with low financial commitments, focused on end user exposure, skill development and community growth. Sprint - post conference sprints and/or individual sprints that focus on key topics (largely technical) that benefit the overall product. CiviCRM also promotes workshops, meetups and webinars. These events are covered separately outside of these guidelines. Detailed requirements We’ve tried to keep these requirements simple and clear, remaining consistent with the core principles that underlie our operational objectives (sustainability and growth). CiviCRM events must be approved by the Core Team in advance. Event organizers, and hence the events, must agree to abide by and enforce CiviCRM’s terms of use, trademark and brand standard, code of conduct and these event guidelines. Event organizers must also disclose any additional terms of use, such as photo and video releases, to attendees in advance of registration. Event organizers must provide financial transparency to the Core Team via a proposed budget in advance as well as a detailed final profit & loss statement. CiviCRM may act as a financial sponsor and can assist with financial arrangements to ensure that each event can be undertaken. Event organizers may also manage event finances. CiviCRM will cover a portion or all of an event’s losses. Proceeds from CiviCRM events fund and are used at the discretion of the CiviCRM Core Team, with a priority for marketing (future events, external conferences, etc.). CiviCRM prefers for CiviCamps and CiviCons to be organized by volunteers, and discourages the use of paid event organizers, especially for smaller events. CiviCRM will recognize volunteer organizers either via the contributor framework or as event sponsors (paid organizers will not receive contributor or sponsor recognition). Event organizers will have access to CiviCRM’s infrastructure for the duration of their need to successfully manage the event. The CiviCRM Core Team should be included on communications to the community sent through civicrm.org. Event organizers should use the infrastructure provided by CiviCRM. In cases where it makes sense to do otherwise, data may be collected outside of CiviCRM. In these cases, the data may not be used for any other purpose than organizing this event, and the data shall be migrated into civicrm.org then any remaining copy be destroyed. Core Team Support The core team is happy to support events that contribute to our vision and meet our objectives of growing the ecosystem and deepening community engagement with the project. Since we are a small team with a finite capacity, there is only so much we can do for each event. Hence we prefer to work with event organisers within our community, supporting them as conference organisers. We are happy be help new teams get off the ground, be involved in initial brainstorming, offer ongoing advice, be part of planning meetings, etc. But we expect the organising teams to so the bulk of the work and take responsibility for the event. We may be able to offer seed funding to start conferences in parts of the world where we are keen to grow the ecosystem. We aim to send at least one member of the core team to each of our larger events and typically choose 1 or 2 events per year to have a large core team attendance. Non-CiviCRM events CiviCRM encourages the growth of events by the community and recognizes that some events, for one reason or another, may not qualify to be officially sanctioned. Such events are often run by community members as for profit endeavors, or in such a way that they do not fully adhere to CiviCRM’s own requirements. That’s perfectly fine. Here’s what you can expect for non-sanctioned events: Ineligible to use CiviCRM’s trademarks or logo to promote the event or in any way that denotes endorsement by CIVICRM LLC. Cannot use CiviCRM infrastructure for registration or promotion. Core Team members can participate at the expense of organizer. CODE OF CONDUCT Purpose CiviCRM believes our community should be truly open for everyone. As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, preferred operating system, programming language, or text editor (or lack thereof). This code of conduct expands on our community guidelines and outlines our expectations for participant behavior as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior at CiviCRM sanctioned events. We invite all members, partners, contributors, sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, and other participants to help us realize a safe and positive conference experience for everyone. Open Source & Culture Citizenship A supplemental goal of this Code of Conduct is to increase open source and culture citizenship by encouraging participants to recognize and strengthen the relationships between our actions and their effects on our community. Communities mirror the societies in which they exist and positive action is essential to counteract the many forms of inequality and abuses of power that exist in society. If you see someone who is making an extra effort to ensure our community is welcoming, friendly, and encourages all participants to contribute to the fullest extent, please recognize their efforts. Expected Behavior Participate in an authentic and active way. In doing so, you contribute to the health and longevity of this community. Exercise consideration and respect in your speech and actions. Attempt collaboration before conflict. Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech. Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert community leaders if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this Code of Conduct, even if they seem inconsequential. Remember that community event venues may be shared with members of the public; please be respectful to all patrons of these locations. Unacceptable Behavior The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community: Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person. Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language. Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material. Posting or threatening to post other people’s personally identifying information ("doxing"). Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability. Inappropriate photography or recording. Inappropriate physical contact. You should have someone’s consent before touching them. Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes, sexualized comments or jokes; inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcomed sexual advances. Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in person). Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior. Sustained disruption of community events, including talks and presentations. Weapons Policy No weapons will be allowed at CiviCRM events or in other spaces covered by the scope of this Code of Conduct. Weapons include but are not limited to guns, explosives (including fireworks), and large knives such as those used for hunting or display, as well as any other item used for the purpose of causing injury or harm to others. Anyone seen in possession of one of these items will be asked to leave immediately, and will only be allowed to return without the weapon. Attendees are further expected to comply with all state and local laws on this matter. Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior Unacceptable behavior from any community member, including sponsors and those with decision-making authority, will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a community member engages in unacceptable behavior, we may take any action deemed appropriate, up to and including a temporary ban or permanent expulsion from the community without warning (and without refund in the case of a paid event). Reporting Guidelines If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify us as soon as possible by emailing conduct@civicrm.org. Please read Reporting Guidelines for details. Additionally, community organizers are available to help community members engage with local law enforcement or to otherwise help those experiencing unacceptable behavior feel safe. In the context of in-person events, organizers will also provide escorts as desired by the person experiencing distress. Addressing Grievances Only permanent resolutions (such as bans) may be appealed. To appeal a decision of the working group, contact the CiviCRM Core Team at info@civicrm.org with your appeal and the Core Team and event organizers will review the case. Scope We expect all community participants (contributors, paid or otherwise; sponsors; and other guests) to abide by this Code of Conduct in all community venues–online and in-person–as well as in all one-on-one communications pertaining to community business. This code of conduct and its related procedures also applies to unacceptable behavior occurring outside the scope of community activities when such behavior has the potential to adversely affect the safety and well-being of community members.
