Even after this patch (http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-9796), I am not getting bounce processing to work. Test case:

Create a contact with 3 email addresses, one real, one with a bad user at a good domain, one with a bad domain. CiviMail set to an alias which goes to a gmail account. CiviMail able to connect to gmail account over IMAP.

Set bad domain to be contact default email, send email message through civicrm Activity (with from address set to system level civicrm@)

Set bad email at good domain to be contact default email, send email message through civicrm Activity (with from address set to system level civicrm@)

First email generates a 5.1.2 error and message, gets to gmail inbox

Second email generates a 5.1.0 error and message, gets to gmail inbox

Email is processed and moved to INBOX/CiviMail/ignored

No "On Hold" flagging is done for those addresses, so the administrator would have no indication that those emails did not get through.

        CRM-9796

There were a few other patches associated with it. When 4.1.2 is released please test that release, if still broken please comment on CRM-9796 and we'll reopen
