read-only custom data field doesn't display

I've only tried this with a Contribution custom field so far.

1. Create a custom field on the Contribution entity
2. Record a new contribution and enter a value into the new custom field
3. Set the field to "view only"

The field is invisible in the contribution edit page, but the field group box is displayed. I think a more consistent behavior would be to display the field read-only.
