Initial Contribution "Save" sets amount to $1.00

            Description

            When recording a contribution, the entered value is ignored and the amount recorded is $1.00.
            Editing the the same contribution and then saving a second time records the amount correctly.
            This happens on Drupal as well as a test Wordpress site.
            I recently upgraded Drupal: 7.14->7.15
            I recently upgraded Civi : 4.1.1 -> 4.2.0
            I enables debugging and bactrace and observed some messages that seem unrelated (see attachment)
