search result contact selection is irregular

it seems the js that triggers the selection of a contact in search results when the checkbox is clicked can be thrown off by other clicks on the page.

1) run a search
2) click view for one of the contacts, but either middle-click or ctrl-click to open it in another tab
3) check two boxes and select merge contacts from the action list
--> popup is given stating you must select contacts

further attempts to select contacts and trigger an action are unsuccessful. you must rerun the search in order to regain that functionality.
