Edits in Edit contribution page

With an event participant registered, I am trying to enter a Payment amount from the "edit contribution" page – /civicrm/contact/view/contribution? –

I enter a partial payment and try to "save" the page. This returns an blank screen with the error message: Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment. Return to home page.
