Price Sets for Memberships "Default" field setting not working for renewals

reproduced on demo site:
http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=2

1. Create a price set for memberships with two or more options.
2. choose the last option as the default
3. sign up for a membership
4. return to the membership page as a renewing members
5. The default price set option is not working, it always chooses the first option in the list instead.

It would be great if the system can remember their last price set selection, but I understand if that is too complex.

Rather renewing members should see the default option selected, or even a blank selection would be ok in some cases, but not the 1st option selected.
