Generated files should be annotated to indicate how they were created

At the least, every generated file should have a comment indicating:

• Source template file
• Date of generation
• Generating script and a warning to not edit manually.

This stuff should all be added by the generating script.

We'll need a routine which can generate the correct comment syntax for the type of file being generated.
