Renewal of Membership with payment does not allow entry of Contribution (Financial type)

The option to renew a membership and recording a payment on the admin side does not allow the operator to enter a Contribution type. Instead it defaults to the contribution type associated with the membership record. This is not consistent with what happens on a NEW membership, which DOES allow one to select a contribution type.
We find that some of our clients record a different contribution type for renewed memberships.

Is it possible to show the contribution type for membership renewals?
