Is account_type option group cruft?

There is a financial_account_type with 5 possible values used in many places in the code, as well as an account_type with 4 possible values. I think the latter predated the CiviAccounts initiative. Is it still used? If it still exists, can it be replaced with financial_account_type?

Could you use grep and other means, eg removing the option_group and corresponding option_values from the db, to find where account_type is used, and list them here with recommendations?
