Description
Inline editing for contact view works on IE7 and IE8
Inline editing of profile names, profile fields, custom field set and custom fields does not work on IE7 and IE8
Javascript error:

jquery.crmeditable.js line: 144 Char:9
Tested on 4.2.8 and on demo.civicrm.org
It does work on IE9
So, very minor: old browser and there is a good alternative: press edit, but maybe it's an easy solve.
