4.3. advanced search on relationship start end date = which????

Just looking on how to search on relationship end date with a customer & we couldn't make sense of what has been done in advanced search here

1) you get to search for, ' start/ end date equal to this year' This leaves me confused as to whether I am searching for relationships that started this year or relationships that ended this year or both.

2) a second problem is that I have to select the relationship type to be able to select the start end date in the UI - so it seems I have to select all relationship types if I want 'any' - which doesn't seem very consistent with other UI patterns
