Custom Filled will not delete or update under Profile

I created a County option under the x.x.x.x/civicrm/admin/uf/group/field?action=browse&reset=1&gid=1
and when I select preview it works great but when I go to enter a new contact the custom field shows state not the list of counties. Then I tried to delete the custom County option but under new contact it still stays there. Any help would be greatly welcomed.
