import - update of note field

CiviCRM v1.5 rev7252

I am trying to use the import contact to update note records for individuals.

I am using first, middle, last to find the object. I can successfully update records changing things like the postal code. But when trying to update the note field I do not see a new note added to the record. If there is a note field in place it remains unchanged.
