PHP Warning when running cli from cron (mysqli_ping(): Couldn't fetch mysqli)

            Description

            PHP 5.3, MySql 5.5.35 on Ubuntu
            Joomla 2.5.14

            I get a Cron job message for every run saying:
            PHP Warning: mysqli_ping(): Couldn't fetch mysqli in /var/www/events/libraries/joomla/database/database/mysqli.php on line 190

            I upgraded CiviCRM to 4.4.4 and did not have this message before.

            I'm running the mailer hourly, and the participant processing always (every 5 minutes) and it seems this message is connected to the participant processing.
