      Description

On the Membership type add/edit form there is an "Auto renew" section which offers the following choices via radios:
      -No auto-renew option
      -Give option, but not required
      -Auto-renew required

There is a problem if you choose: "Auto-renew required."

The problem: with the "Membership section" checkbox checked on the Membership tab of Contribution Page configuration, go to the section "Membership Types" and look in the "Auto-renew column." It will be set to "Not offered." It should be set to "Required." And that setting should not be editable.

Currently it is editable. So it can be manually fixed by setting it to "required." I have a client who didn't notice the setting in the Auto-renew column and left it "not offered." The result was that the person's membership record said "auto-renewing" but there was no repeating contribution set so no new payment would occur when the membership expired.

In short: the "Auto Renew" column value on the membership tab of a contribution page configuration must adhere to the settings established on Membership Type add/edit screen.

I have reproduced this problem on the CiviCRM 4.5.4 demo site and on a client's 4.4.9 site.
