Contact Reference Field auto complete with spaces

While doing an advanced search my colleague wishes to search in a custom field contact reference field for a school called The Bridge Academy. She is an experienced Civi user.

When she enters Bridge (a lot of schools have the word "Bridge" in their name) the name doesn't appear in the list (it is a truncated list). If she enters "the bridge academy" the offered results list includes schools with just "the" in their name, and just "academy", and just "bridge".

The way for her to successfully search for "The Bridge Academy" is for her to enter the_bridge_academy or bridge_academy.

This is very obtuse and non-standard. The majority of users will not know to do this.
