      Description

The currently available l10n file for CiviCRM 4.5.6 (civicrm-4.5.6-l10n.tar.gz) contains a string that breaks both contribution buttons on the contribution tab of a contact ("Record Contribution (Check, Cash, EFT ...)" and "Submit Credit Card Contribution") when the currently selected language is German. This happens due to a faulty translation of the string "Click <a %1>Submit Credit Card Contribution</a> to process a new contribution on behalf of the contributor using their credit card." to "Klicken Sie auf <a href='%1>Kreditkartenzahlung erfassen</a> um eine Zuwendung per Kreditkarte zu verarbeiten."

We have already fixed the faulty translation on Transifex but the files on the sourceforge.net project page need to be updated.

[CRM-15968] German translation breaks contact contribution tab
Mathieu Lutfy added a comment -

          Hi Niko,

Thank you for reporting and for fixing the broken string in Transifex.

The civicrm-l10n.tar.gz files on SourceForge are updated when a new CiviCRM release is made (4.5 has had a release pretty much every month). We don't really have a way to update them more regularly.

Since various languages often have bugs like that, you are raising a good point however: we do not clearly document how to update translation files between releases. We should probably bypass sourceforge completely, but it's not obvious to have a solution that works for everyone.

Since last year, there is an extension called "l10nupdate" that can do a daily update of the translation files: https://github.com/cividesk/com.cividesk.l10n.update/

You can also download the "daily" updates manually from our website (documented in the i18n guide):
          http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/i18n+Administrator%27s+Guide

I also did a few updates to the i18n guides to help reduce the duplication and structure it a bit more.

I will also continue on work to propose a better download page on civicrm.org. For example, currently there isn't much done to direct non-anglophones to the language-based forums, such as the German one: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/board,62.0.html

So in cases like this bug, you could post a warning on the German forum to let people know that they should update their translation file manually or with l10nupdate.

For more general i18n issues, you can also post on the i18n forum: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/board,10.0.html
