membership of other then default organisation

i am planning to start the membership administration for a multi sport sporting organisation for handicapped people. i was told that civi is the best. so i installed it and encountered the following error on the add membership page you cant select any other organisation then default the drop down menue is not displaying other organisations in the contact list.

why would i like to have this feature because each sport has its own profit and loss and therefore i created a organisation per department. if i only have membership type to define members if would be like MEMBER ACTIVE BASKETBALL MEMBER ACTIVE FOOTBAL etc instead of haveing 2 departments in this case Basketball and Footbal and they have 1 comon membership type active member
