Contact Image does not display on contact summary screen when loaded via a profile

If I add the contact image URL field to a profile and then use profile create directly, the image is uploaded and the image URL is stored correctly in the civicrm_contact table.

If I use the same profile in say a contribution page, the image is uploaded but the image url is not stored correctly. It as stored as "array" in the civicrm_contact table and it appears as a broken image in the contact summary screen.
