CiviEvent Registration Page Redirect takes over WP Content

When using the Events shortcode for Registration on any post or page in WP, once the registration has passed it takes over the page. It goes from looking something like this:

To this

This affects an existing archive page or listing. Is there a way that notice could appear on the page without taking over all the content in WP.
