Contribution confirmation page forces custom date fields always to be format yyyy-mm-dd

I have created custom date field with format dd/mm/yyyy and also specified the global date format to be dd/mm/yyyy. I included that field in a Profile and used that profile in a Contribution page. However on the Contribution confirmation page the field is always displayed format yyyy-mm-dd. See the screenshots attached.
