Cancel an IPN payment when renewing membership cancels entire membership

Scenario:

• User has an active membership
• User come to a contribution page with an off-site payment processor
• User submitted the form and is led to the 3rd party payment page
• User cancels the payment

Now for payment processors that do send back cancellation signals (e.g. Sagepay. Paypal used to not send back any cancellation signal but not sure if it does now), the original active membership will be marked as cancelled.
