Incorrect/confusing payment amounts on partial payments

I discovered this in our Joomla installation of 4.7.8, and was able to recreate it, with some differences, on the demo of Drupal 4.7. Here are examples of three variations:

A participant registers for an event, and makes a single partial payment. When viewing how much the person has paid, there are 2 payment entries: one for the full event fee, another for the actual amount that they paid. The Total Paid and Balance on View Event Registration are correct, but if looking at the person's contributions, it is unclear what they have paid. This I can recreate on the demo and on our Joomla installation. (See first two attachments.)

For a registration created before our upgrade to 4.7 (have not tried to recreate this situation) with only one payment on the registration, only one payment is listed under Payments, but it is the total amount of the trip fee, which is incorrect. Only a portion of the trip fee was paid. (See 3rd attachment.)

For another registration created before our upgrade to 4.7 with 2 payments on the registration, both payments show up correctly under Payments, but the Total Paid and Balance on the Registration only reflect the first payment. (See 4th attachment.)
