Membership cancelation via contribution doesn't create membership status change activity

When changing the status of a membership, activity of type "membership status change" is created.

However, if that membership is canceled automatically because the underlying contribution is canceled, the activity isn't created.

Steps to reproduce:

Go to any paid membership record, click view
At the bottom where the contributions are listed, click edit on the membership contribution
Change contribution status to canceled and save
Result: Both contribution and memberships are canceled but no activity exists
