Activity type smart groups created with the "old-style" store are breaking on upgrade to 4.7.17

            Description

            I have found various issues on smart groups breaking due to the new format for storing smart group criteria, but these have supposedly been closed as fixed. (https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-17546  https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-17313 https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-16938, https://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-16922 ) 

            However, on a site upgraded form 4.4 to 4.7.17 the smart groups involving activity type are broken.  

            Is it possible for one of the fixes to have "gone missing"?
