Hi there,
I just installed a straight Joomla 3.7.3 install with CiviCRM 4.7.22 on PHP 7.1.
When you go to Events => Manage Events pages you get a fatal error:
An error has occurred.
0 Using $this when not in object context
When you revert to PHP 7.0 it works fine.
This seems to be the same issue as reported in the linked JIRA CRM-19941 with the Contribute module
