Date fields not consistant throughout application

The representation of date fields is not consistent in the CiviCRM application. The date formats are set %E %B %Y for screens and %d %b %Y for input fields.

1) When a custom field is created this field is shown in format '15 okt 2005', this is a short notation and not consistent with %E %B %Y.
2) When viewing a membership (under view) a date is shown in format '2005-10-15', this is again not consistent with %E %B %Y
3) In the my account section of Drupal date are misrepresented also. For instance the field birthdate is shown in format 1971-08-19 (YYYY-MM-DD), while custom fields are shown in format 'oktober 15 2005' (MMM DD YYYY). Both instances are not consistent with %E %B %Y set in CiviCRM administration.
