CiviCRM does not accept country and generates error

situation:
CiviCRM is installed for the Dutch language. Two country names are setup (Netherlands & Belgium) for usage. The countries show up in a drop down menu, but when selecting one and saving CiviCRM generates an error 'Enter the valid country name'.
