Event fields don't display in selector for profile search

One of our database users wanted to set up a custom profile that would allow you to search for individuals in CiviCRM and display their contact information along with their event participant status. She can set this up in the custom profile using all the profile fields she needs for the individual and the event participant field. When she uses this profile for a search it works, but then the participant status is blank in the selector in the search results..
