Custom data displays empty value in select list as "-select-"

To reproduce (on demo)

1. Create a new custom data tab for contacts
2. Create two alphanumeric select fields with any values, not required, no default
3. Edit a contact and set only one of the values
4. Note that the other value now displays "select" even in view mode
