We got around this by using Batch Update via Profile, but wanted to report it also.
When searching for Event Participants, we see a listing of participants with the correct info listed in the Event Fee column. After clicking on Edit for a participant that registered for a paid event, we select the new status without a problem. However, the Event Fees section is read-only and does not have any of the fee options selected.
When trying to save the event we get the Registration Date/Time error along with "Participants is a required field". This fields cannot be changed, however, because it's read-only.
