Custom data with required fields gives error when new individual created via quick add new individual block

Enable the quick add new individual block.
Add a custom field for individuals that is required. Give it a default value.
Create a new individual from the block.
The following error occurs:
Please correct the following errors in the form fields below: * testfield is a required field.

Expected behavior: If it has a default value, the value should get automatically assigned. The existing behavior is probably fine if there is no default value.
