Inconsistent behaviour of participant edit buttons

I have noticed some strange behaviour with the urls that you get redirected to after pressing the buttons on the participant edit screen. Basically, when editing contacts, the url you are sent to after clicking 'cancel' or 'save' is different depending on the page route that took you there. This is inconsistent and a little confusing for users. Is this is a bug or by design?

I have reproduced this in the demo site: http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/

-log in

• go to events-find participants
• search for an event name or find one form the autocomplete list and click search. (the point here is that we get to the participants search results for this event)

here is where it diverges:

• click 'view' on a contact in the list
• on the participant view screen, click 'edit'
• on the participant edit screen, click 'save' or 'cancel'
• this redirects you to the contact record

option 2

• click 'edit' on a contact in the list
• on the participant view screen, click edit
• on the participant edit screen, click 'save' or 'cancel'
• this redirects you back to the contact search, sometimes for the event you searched for, and sometimes with all participants

Shouldn't these both return you to the same page - preferably the search results/event listing which took you to the edit screen?
It is annoying to have to do the search again to get back to the same results?
