Description
I notice that recently, it has become possible to add custom data to Groups. However, it is not possible to search for groups based on this custom data. Please add this facility (analogous to searching for Contacts on custom data fields).
Justification for marking this as a 'Major' improvement: Groups are a key feature of CiviCRM. They implement the communication channels with our constituents. But once the number of groups gets up to 100 or so, it becomes difficult to find them. The only way we can currently do that is by name (for us, type and visibility are not useful criteria). Using custom data, we can classify groups as: global or local, temporary or permanent, and identify the group's 'owner'. Not being able to search on these criteria is limiting our use of groups.
