Cannot add any data to Custom fields set to View Only

      Description

      If you set a Custom field to View Only then there appears to be no way to add any data to that field either manually or thru the api.

      Does that not render this field useless?

      It would make sense if you could add data to a view only field manually (or thru api) when you are creating a NEW record, but then have it be View Only (non-editable) when viewing it, so that you cannot change it or update (either manually or via api). This View Only should not even allow admins to change it that have full privileges.

      Otherwise I don't see the purpose of this field at all... it would always be empty!
