CiviCRM Profile should support double-opt-in also for contact data

This is a request for a feature.

CiviCRM Profiles are a good way to create form - also for create or update of contact data.

However, CiviCRM lacks of a lead/prospect tables - with temporary contact data.

The request would be that if a contact is created - or changed - via Profile, data entered would be stored in some special table - or even in contact table with some special flag.
Confirmation email would be sent to the contact's email (not editable for existing contact).

If confirmed, a new contact would be created - or an existing contact updated - with data from the special table (row). The temporary profile contact data could be then marked as used (or deleted).

I suppose this would significantly help to increase security and reliability of forms providing possibility to create or change contact's data by anonymous users.
