Online registration with multiple (3 or more) profiles (not just "pre" and "post")

The way profiles are displayed on the event registration form is very appealing in terms of making sense of things to the user. Grouping related fields together in a fieldset really helps with comprehension.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to get more than two of these groups on the registration form. Event configuration offers "Include Profile (top of page)" and "Include Profile (bottom of page)", and that's it.

Would be nice to either allow more than these two profiles on the registration form, or else to support sub-grouping of fields within profiles. It looks to me like it would be pretty easy to add support for more than 2 profiles on a registration form.

Is this something that Civi maintainers would be willing to add to core if I submit working code?
