CiviCRM Event Templates: 'Tell a Friend' option fails to remain enabled

When setting up an event template, the final option is to enable 'Tell a Friend' functionality. If a template is created with this option enabled, the expectation is that this option will remain enabled in the template, such that events and other templates created from this template will by default have this option enabled. However this is not the case.
My experience with my own installation, and with http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org is that the template quickly, although not immediately, reverts to a state where the 'Tell a Friend' option is disabled, and any changes made to the content within that section are lost. The loss of 'Tell a Friend' settings may be triggered by the first use of the template to create an event or a further template.
