Registered user cannot rejoin group using profile

Using the front end, users are currently able to add themselves to a group (mailing list), later remove themselves from the group (mailing list), but are unble to re-add themselves. While not catastrophic, it doesn't allow users the option to add and remove at will.

The profile reports that it was updated successfully, but the group memberships are not updated.
