Description
Currently "Post Help" text from a custom field is carried forward as a default for Post Help in an associated profile field. However, the "Pre Help" text from the custom field is not carried over (this was an oversight when Pre Help was added for profiles). We should make this behavior consistent - both pre and post help carried over to profile field as defaults.
I've also made a slight modification to the inline text below the custom field Pre / Post Help input fields to help clarify things:
"Explanatory text displayed on back-end forms. ...."
---- Original Post -------
Field help for Custom Data is not shown on Profiles, but novice users think it is or should be. (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,19158.0.html) That's the 2nd question I've gotten on the topic in less than a month.
Only Field help in the Profile itself is shown on the Profile. Custom Data field help seems to only be shown on the administrative backend when editing.
Options:
1. Suggestion, make a simple change to the label here:
<<site>>civicrm/admin/custom/group/field/update?action=update
From "Field Pre Help" "Field Post Help" to "Administrative Pre Field Help" "Administrative PostField Help" which would better explain the behavior.
2. If the behavior is wrong, then we'd need a patch to correct it.
I'd be happy to submit a patch for #1 if that is the direction we want to take. Please let me know.
