PDF Letters Created do not display

if i go to a profile i see all the tabs. if i click on activity and then create a pdf letter, everything works correctly. when i click done it takes me back to the activities screen. on the tab next to activities there is a little number (like all the tabs) indicating how many "activities" there are. in this case it shows 2 (i've tried this twice now). But there is nothing listed in the table. I've clicked to see if there is a filter set but the filters are all clear. even if i do filter for pdf letter they still do not show up.
