Custom field contact ref data doesn't update when contacts are merged

            Description

            This is a data integrity problem. If you have a contact-ref custom field, it ought to get updated when contacts are merged, otherwise it may point to a deleted contact.
            Tested in 4.08 and 4.1b3 on a contact ref field that extends event participant. Failed to update in both versions.
            Is this something that broke, or something that never worked?
