Shortcodes do not respect other content

The WordPress shortcode is intended for embedding content in a post or page (for example a YouTube video, a quote or a gallery) not for overwriting it. At present, the CiviCRM shortcode tries to hijack the host page, but does so too late to be effective. Any apparent success with the twentyeleven theme (as used by the demo site) is coincidental because of its particular layout and markup. I have tried it with a number of other themes and it fails, often with disastrous results - for example when, quite legitimately, two shortcodes are added to a page. The crux of the issue is whether CiviCRM allows a post/page to embed the content of a Civi entity within its host content.
