IE issue - Error on multi record listing profile edit page submission

We have a civi profile with just one multi record custom field (type-contact reference).
In Chrome, if the profile is used in edit mode, more records can be added by clicking on 'Add new record' button. This opens a dialog to enter the value and on clicking 'Save' button, it reloads the profile edit page with updated information. But in IE, after clicking on save, page reloads but the URL has no parameters. It looks like '

/civicrm/profile/' due to which this error comes up on the screen:

"Sorry but we are not able to provide this at the moment.
The requested Profile (gid=3) is disabled OR it is not configured to be used for 'Profile' listings in its Settings OR there is no Profile with that ID OR you do not have permission to access this profile. Please contact the site administrator if you need assistance.

Return to home page."

The gid value in the error (3 in this example) varies with different websites.

This issue is just for IE, it works fine in Chrome and Firefox.
