Description
In the results of a Find Contributions search, summary numbers are displayed at the top. One of these is "Total Cancelled Amount". At least some users are taking this label at face value and expecting it to be a total of contributions with a "Cancelled" status; however, this total also includes contributions with a "Refunded" status.
Consider this screenshot, refunded.png, from dmaster.demo.civicrm.org:
Recommendation and rationale:
- Not recommended: Change the number so that "Refunded" contributions are excluded: This is possible, and would match the meaning of the label, but I think would surprise any users who have already learned to expected refunded amounts to be included. I.e., it changes the meaning of the number. I don't recommend this.
- Recommended: Change the label: This retains the existing meaning of the number, thus avoiding new confusion, and clarifies the meaning of the number, thus decreasing the old confusion. I recommend changing the label to read, "Cancelled/Refunded" (the words "Total" and "Amount" are redundant and take up space, so remove them).
