      Description

Core 1.8 beta 10576, item 1 and 2 also verified on the demo site

      In editing contacts:
      1) Select country or select state/province: only the first 5 country's / states are shown. The pop up is slow. You can not roll down

      2) When deselect all available countries and states in global setup the countrie and state labels are stil present in edit contacts and all the available countries are shown when selecting the pop up. The states pop up has the (stored contact ) state or the basic select text

      3) I have succesfully transferred a 1.7 database to 1.8. The database is filled with Dutch contacts.

When my default country is the Netherlands (global settings/localisation) and also available countries and states/provinces are "Netherlands" my country pop up in edit contact shows "Nederland" (the translation of the Netherlands) AND "Netherlands". The default is "Nederland" You van select between the original country " Netherlands" and the translation "Nederland" When I leave the countrie "Nederland" the state/province shows the province of the contact selected in the original civicrm 1.7 version (stored in de db). That is correct, only the province pop up does not work and you can not change the province.

When i select "Netherlands" n the country pop up the "Nederland" tekst in the pop up dissapears,, the province pop-up goes to select and when you click the pop up you can only select the first 5 provinces. (item 1)

          1. Country and State are auto complete comboboxes. So if you type 'U' you will get the list of first 5 countries starting with 'U'.
          2. When you deselect all countries/states that means everything is available. This is a feature. If you want to show only specific countries you will have to select it.
          3. This was a bug and fixed in rev 10593. We will roll out new beta later today. I have updated demo site, so you may verify the fix. http://demo.civicrm.org/drupal

Wow, you are fast in reaction!

          1. I understand the use of complete comboboxes (long listings). I just saw there was a explanation in the localisation settings text .....
          2. I understand that also because there are options to unselect adress labels in gloabl settings/adress labels
          3. I tried the demo site and saw it was working

Wow, you are fast in sollution!

I have 2 things to consider:
          4) About the state/province boxes. The default text is select. Because it is not a pop up box with listings this is confusing. When there is - select- in the box I want to click in it and expect a list to select from.

          5) I my self prefer the old pop up box (countrie and state/prov) for my users (like the one in 1.7), because users have a complete overview to select from and they always can type the first letter(s) to step to the first item starting with that letter, decreasing the selection. Especially in cases wirh countries and state/prov selections, foreign users often don't know the correct spelling. In a complete overview the recognition of the countrie, state/prov. is much better.
I know, complete comboboxes can be faster to work with, however for my users speed is not a issue. .

Regards and the compliments for developing such a beautiful CRM

I have a client who also doesn't like or expect autocomplete boxes for the provinces, because most of the time it's just for one country with only 12 provinces (i.e. Canada).

In this case, it makes more sense for the default of 5 to be increased to 12, which if you know some php, you can find here:
