This has been checked on the demo and the sandbox.
When using the advanced search to find contacts by event name, attempting to tag contacts results in all the contacts in the database being tagged. Here are the steps on the sandbox:
- Go to advanced search
- In the events section, enter Rain-forest Cup Youth Soccer Tournament in the event name field, click search
- Select All 6 Records and Tag Contacts, click go
- Select a tag and click go
- All 107 records get tagged
So far the only time this happens is when searching by event name. I haven't had this happen with other fields yet, but I haven't tested them all either.

When verifying this - make sure the related bug with creating a Smart Group from Event-based search results has been fixed:
"I did a search of people who had signed up for the event "rain-forest world cup ..." which resulted in about 6 contacts. from the results I made the smart group "rain". I went to Manage Groups, selected to view members for "rain" and every contact in the system was displayed rather then just the 6 that the search returned. The problem persists when displaying a profile listing limited to that group in the joomla front end (i.e., all users are displayed)"

Tested and verified for 2.1 rev-16527.
I could reproduce this in 1.9, but could not reproduce it in 2.0. I assume this has been fixed due to all changes we've made in 2.0. I cleaned up one other issue with regard to this in 2.0
