      Description

When a contribution page is configured with a Membership section enabled and the "Separate Membership payments" enabled, transactions for the membership and a separate contribution will be processed separately and both categorized as the "Contribution type" specified on the main contribution page settings.

It would be very useful for accounting purposes to allow the separate payments to be put into two categories. (e.g. Membership payment -> "Membership dues", and an additional contribution -> "Contributions").

      Suggestion:
When "Separate Membership payments" is selected then an additional "Contribution Type" drop down should allow the membership transaction to be categorized separately.

[CRM-2893] Allow contribution pages with separate Membership payments to categorize transactions into different Contribution types

Implemented this feature. Patch applies to v3.3.5. It's huge because my editors cleaned up all the trailing whitespace in the files. The 'summary' file includes just the relevant excerpts, but I couldn't get that to apply cleanly.

Note that this makes settings a contribution type required when 'other amounts' is allowed, although it will default to 'Donation' (Contribution Type ID = 1) if not set.

Hi Matt - I'm not sure this patch is needed in current version(s) - 3.3 and 3.4. If a contribution page is set up to allow separate membership payments - the contribution for the membership fee acquires the contribution type assigned to the selected membership type (in Administer > CiviMember > Membership Types), while the additional contribution is assigned to the contribution type configured for that online contribution page under the "Title and Settings" tab.

Are there situations where this level of granularity is NOT sufficient? I have discussed this with several other implementors who have clients with granular accounting needs and it seems to work for them (given that you can create any number of membership types and contribution types). Feel free to ping me on IRC to discuss if that's easier.

These 448 issues have not been worked on for the past 18 months.

Doing a bulk close of old issues to make the issue queue more manageable. We should do this on a periodic basis.
